To discuss Office 2010. Have an end-user question about Microsoft Office. I don't know what the problem is, but when I try to install Microsoft Office Professional Access 2010, I get an error message that the setup bootstrapper has stopped.

I had the same problem on fully licensed, fresh install. We purchased a new Dell Studio XPS 16 for one of our VP's. I wiped the laptop and installed a fresh copy of Vista Ultimate 32-bit. Everything installed fine until I got to the MS Office 2007 Std Ed installation, kept getting the bootstrap error. I made an ISO of the MS Office installation. Then, using the free Virtual Clone Drive from Elaborate Byes (I mounted the virtual image and was able to successfully install MS Office.

The problem seems to stem from the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) in Vista and the way the MS Office setup.exe was using the systems memory. Also, when I tried to installed it from my licensed MSDN Office 2007 Std installation folder, I kept getting an UAC prompt stating 'An unidentified program wants access to your computer'. After converting it to an ISO and mounting the ISO image, I never got any UAC prompt, it showed a digitally signed and was able to install it successfully.

Strange issue with an Office 2010 installation. Cannot install, no matter what is done, get the error 'Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper has stopped working' Hard drive and all hardware checks good. Formatted drive, reinstalled Windows, nothing works. MS tech support rep has logged in and reinstalled windows as well. They sent a new Windows install disk, no go. Now sending a new Office 2010 disk, but since we've already tried to install from different media, I know that's not going to work either. Anyone else seen this?

Looks like it may be another program or service that is conflicting with the installation. I found a Microsoft TechNet forum in which Citrix Virtual Desktop Agent Core Services Service was installed and was causing the problem. Any Citrix services running? I would recommend completing a selective startup to isolate the offending program: - Start - Run - Type 'msconfig' - Click 'OK'. Click the 'Services' tab. Check the 'Hide all Microsoft Services' checkbox. Start by checking 5 services at a time and reboot. You can isolate which service is causing the issue by checking 5 at a time.

I have had a similar issue before. Sounds like a Media/Device issue. But specific to your machine. It is possible the DVD reader is having issues reading that specific media. My similar issue was a disk that would install on every system I tried but one. I had to replace the media to get it to install.

What I did was download the installer to a USB stick and installed from there. Was the only way I could get it to install on the system, I didn't have time to wait for new media. //Edit I am to slow. But I am going to leave this comment//.
