Tomtom Navcore Torrent 8.3
It's incredibly frustrating. Same/very similar thing happened when navcore 9 first came out - all x40 devices threw up 1008 errors. Eventually - I think it took nearly 2 weeks - TT fixed it. Thing that bugs me mostly is that I've just restored my device back to 9.058 with a back-up from about 6 weeks ago and there is now no way to deselect the so called upgrade to 9.400 in Home. That means I have the stark choice of either 'upgrading' to 9.400 and losing my Live services or staying at 9.058 and living with safety cameras, fuel prices, gps fix and mapshares all remaining out of date. Not a happy camper. I am furious that Tom Tom does this again.
I have a big trip for tomorrow and I can't use my Services now. Thanks TomTom. There is no need to have such a problem again is it? Why don't test it on several units inhouse before releasing it public? Everytime there are updates there is something that is not functioning. I really feel they don't test it on a device universally to see if it throws a fit.
I mean I was a programmer myself and we could not bring out anything until it is was a Manufacturing release. No such things as Alpha, Beta, and other RC1,2,3, etc. Microsoft does that as well and it is never finished, you always need Service Pack 1, 2,3, 4, 5, 6 and 6a for example in the time of Windows NT. When it finally was finished they came with Windows 2000 Professional that saw own 2 years time of daylight and then we got Windows XP that took also 3 Service Packs to get it right. Now they can't burn that XP not from the face of the earth because everyone became content with it.
Download TomTom Europe 995.8507 (08.2017) or any other file from Applications category. HTTP download also available at fast speeds.
Not even to tell about Vista after that was a trip to Hardware change heaven. Now Windows 7 is there and it works nicely with SP 1, they have to have Windows 8.
I am not waiting for that, everytime with all those updates there is something. How can a company like Tom Tom even think for one second this is acceptable. I mean come on guys, you are a state of the art company. Get cracking and fix it as fast as you can. I've been phoning too and raised 'questions' - no sensible responce yet, but hopefully the dev's ears are buzzing!
Would love to get in on the beta program (is there still one) and be able to give them useful debug. Would love to enable debug on the device itself and get useful data out of the apps save on flash - would make the reboot loops and errors so much more tollerable if like all the other unix boxes I build and admin for a living I could just read the logs. (Of course it would be nice to have source to the proprietary bits to tweak the heck out of them too. But that might be a pipe dream too far!). I've just emailed customer services about this and included a link to this thread. I only joined the forum because this is the second time I've had an update partially disable my device and I'm a bit sick of it now considering the cost of the Live services.
I don't know if anyone has tried yet but when I dock my Go 740 with Tomtom Home (2.8.3.1343) on my Mac then operate the Go 740 through the computer using 'Operate my device' the Live services work perfectly on my computer screen, I can check traffic, weather and the rest! However when I disconnect the Go 740 from the computer and then try and check any of the Live services on the Go 740 I get the sim 1008 error again.
Why dont TomTom have a two tiered release? 1) Announce in the forums that there is a new version that you can manually download from and manually put in directory%APPDATA%LocalTomtom. And install manually at your own risk. Let the brave and foolhardy test it for a week or two - there are loads of us - some of us even have a clue and might be able to really help. Everyone else wont know. Or bother so there is no risk of collateral damge and very bad PR.
2) A couple of weeks later push it out through Home to everyone - with much greater confidence that it's not going to break my mums only chance of getting somewhere. On time and without getting lost, cost TomTom a lot of good will and generate a twitter storm of bad PR. Seriously - open beta works for the Open source world, it works for lots of commercial entities too. Why is it not so obvious that TT do it?
I updated my TOMTOM GO 720 with TomTom HOME = result is that now I cannot use the device anymore, the map is unknown. Finally I came back to a very old version still in my PC. When I connect again with TT HOME I have no other possibilities then updating again the navcore, just to get the latest QuickGPSFIX.
I cannot understand why Tomtom company continues to deliver something which does not work and does not allow at least to reject the update of the navcore, like an option I will dig into my android phone to replace tomtom. BYE TOMTOM, HELLO ANDROID (A French guy very furious). Emvee - just use the filesystem level backup you took before the upgrade. You did do a full backup - not from Home, but the actual filesytem (nautilus/command line/ windows explorer / mac finder) so just copy that back - you dont need to copy the map directory back - should be about 40MB to copy. And everyone please call CS and dont put up with the usual instructions to 'backup/reinstall' as I just got from them.
I was even asked for a copy of 'System information' which I included in the original support request! They dont seem to actually read what you write or answer the actual questions you ask which seems very rude to me.

Try disconnecting the device, do a drum reset by holding the power button about 20 seconds till you hear the drum sounds. Close Home 2 completely. Open it up and reconnect. See if 9.510 is offered. If not, in Home, Manage my Device-items on computer-application, what shows there?
(click the 'more info' link to see the version number). If 9.510 is showing, select to install. If that doesn't work. In Manage my Device in Home, items on device, application, select to remove. Do the same with items on computer-application. Now, disconnect the device properly from Home using the Device Disconnect icon. Reboot the device.

Reconnect the unit to the computer. An application should be offered; hopefully, it is 9.510.
Thank you for your reply. Drum reset tried already, does not work. I am using a new computer, intalling a new HOME 2.
So intems on computer shows nothing. 'In Manage my Device in Home, items on device, application, select to remove. Do the same with items on computer-application.' -because I format my GPS drive, so this method deletes data in GPS quite well. Still no 9.510. Anyway, I managed to reinstal 9.510 to GPS by using the old computer which have 9.510 backup.
Just want to know, what happened? Is TOMTOM SERVER HAVING a problem? OR my GPS has some problem. I try to intall 9.510 on 3 computers (runing windows 8, xp and mac 10.9, all using tomtom home 2.9). None of them can give me 9.510 from internet. Only one have 9.510 back up.
